This handle is based on the actual handles that Sergei Golubitsky used for 10 years; using them he won an amazing 3 World Championships. The design is smaller than most and Sergei feels that the compact shape gives him greater control. His original handles were adapted Belgian handles and we have faithfully copied his design. On the lower protrusion he had built up the handle extensively with tape and this helped to grip the little and ring fingers tight into the handle against the protrusion that sits between the ring finger and middle finger. We have replaced the tape witha asymmetric piece of rubber tube. This has a slightly triangular cross section that means the wall thickness of the tube varies. This tube can be rotated as necessary to create a shape comfortable for the individual. The part of the handle that buts up against the guard is ground to butt perfectly up against the guard when the blade is given a normal set (cant).

The Gardere handle is a cross between the pistol and french grip. It fits on a full length tang with a pommel but is formed to provide extra grip.

These traditional French grips have a curved shape to follow the contours of the hand for a perfect fit. The leather is bonded to the core with tough flexible resin glue that will last for years. The surface of the grip is treated with a "tackifying" solution which makes it extremely grippy and the absorbent surface of the leather means that it retains its grip even when damp from perspiration. The handle is finished with a friction fit aluminium feral at each end that provides a solid surface for mounting. These handles are for use with a long tang blade and a pommel.

Soft touch but hard wearing rubber gives fantastic grip and feel whilst being extremely durable. The rubber is injected over the top of a special glass reinforced plastic core such that the outer rubber and inner core are permanently chemically bonded by the extreme heat and pressure. The handle is embossed with a Leon Paul logo where the thumb sits for added grip.

The special aluminium allows the guard to be thinner without compromising on strength meaning they are 30% lighter than our standard guards.

Unlike other lightweight guards ours are heat tempered after forming to give them a hard yet springy quality that gives them their increased durability. Bayonet Inside guard socket. Push and twist to lock bayonet design means perfect contact to eliminate white lights. Also it is almost impossible for it to fall out during play. (The system works like a light bulb fitting. To insert the plug you have to push it all the way into the socket and then twist to lock. To remove the plug you should push before you twist to minimise wear to the plug.)

Even our three-pin plug is more reliable than many others; the pins are slightly offset meaning that as the plug is pushed in the pins are forced to straighten providing increased tension and a perfect contact throughout its life. We make our wire from double spun multi core copper cable, each core being made of hundreds of twisted copper filaments. This gives the wire greater flexibility and increases its fatigue life. We coat the wire with clear plastic so that if it does eventually break you can see where it has broken and just trim it rather than replace the whole item. The covers on both plugs are made from a one-piece flexible plastic moulding. This allows the wire to flex inside the plug and prevents it from being bent repeatedly at the point of entry, which increases the life span of the wire. Finally, all of our terminations are made with piercing screws which are much more reliable and allow easy maintenance.
