Junior World Championships :
Rebecca Ward, the reigning Cadet World Champion, added to her personal
medal count today by defeating Alexandra Bujdoso (GER) 15-11 to claim
the Junior World Championship in Women's Sabre. Entering the quarterfinal round, it looked as though a rematch of the cadet final bout between Ward and Caroline Vloka would take place. Vloka beat Reija Block (GER) 15-11 in the quarterfinals but fell to her team mate Alexandra Bujdoso 15-12 in the semifinals. Ward cruised through her quarterfinal match against the Ukraine's Nina Kozlova and then crushed Russian Ekaterina Diatchenko 15-5 to make it to the gold medal bout. In the quarterfinals Diatchenko had knocked out US team mate Dagmara Wozniak 15-12.
